Flooring Trims

Trims are what finish a floor. They cover the expansion gap that every floating floor needs at doorways, edges and changes in height — and that gap is not optional. With nowhere to move, boards buckle, lift at the joins and put pressure on the locking system. A trim is a small part of the job that protects the whole floor.
Every trim we sell is aluminium, 2700mm long, fully waterproof and resistant to rust and mould, and suited to domestic and light commercial use. With over 20 colours we have the largest aluminium trim range in Australia, and on every flooring product page we have already pre-matched the closest trim colours for you under Add Accessories.
The profiles we stock
Ramp Trim — joins floors sitting at different heights, taking up a difference of up to 45mm with a base kit, or more when glued straight down. The usual choice where flooring meets tile, carpet, carpet tiles or concrete. Also available without a base.
End Border Trim — caps the edge where the floor stops against a wall, a sliding door track or a hearth. Also available without a base.
Universal Cover Trim — bridges two floors of the same or nearly the same height, in a doorway or between rooms.
Flat Cover Trim — a low, flat profile for joins where both floors finish level.
This is the one people most often get wrong. The base kit is sized on your total build-up — the flooring plus the underlay — not on the step height between the two floors.
So a 6.5mm hybrid laid without underlay is 6.5mm all up and takes the 6mm – 7mm kit. A 14mm engineered oak over 3mm rubber underlay is 17mm all up and takes the 16mm – 20mm kit. Measure the whole sandwich, then pick the kit it falls inside.
Not sure? Tell us the flooring and underlay you are using and we will work the kit out for you.
Colour matching
Colours can look different from screen to screen, so treat the photos as a guide rather than an exact match. With more than 20 aluminium colours we can get close to almost any floor, though in some cases a close match is the best available rather than an exact one. If you are buying flooring from us, the matching trim colour is already selected for you on the flooring page.
Samples
We can post you a sample of the actual trim you are after, in the colour you want, so you can see the profile and the finish before you commit. Each sample is $5 and around 10 – 15cm long, and we can include the base kit at no extra charge if you would like to see how the two fit together. Just get in touch with the colours you would like and we will organise it.
Installing
The base is glued to the subfloor with a flexible construction adhesive such as our Fast-Grab MS Adhesive, the flooring is laid with its expansion gap left clear, and the cover strip presses into the base to cover the flooring on both sides. Trims are not recommended anywhere stock trolleys or other high point loads will roll over them.
Still not sure what you need? Call us on 1800 312 848 or send us your measurements and we will tell you exactly which trims and base kits to order.
